Home > The Keystone Blog > Waste Solutions Blog > Pros and Cons of Rear-Load Containers

Our team at Keystone Waste Solutions LLC has extensive experience in the waste management industry, and we want to help you find the right containers for your needs. In this article, we will focus on rear-load containers, going over a few of their pros and cons to help you decide if they are the right fit for your application.

Pros and Cons of Rear-Load Containers

Pros:

  • Stability – One advantage of rear-load containers is their greater stability. Compared to front- and side-load containers, rear-load models tend to be more stable when full, which makes them less likely to tip over. If you plan to use a container in a crowded area with lots of traffic, or you expect the container to be exposed to high winds, then we recommend using a rear-load container.
  • Compactness – Another advantage of rear-load containers is their compactness. These containers are designed to fit into alleys and other areas where space is limited. Because they load from the rear, they can be used more easily in these tight areas because they require less clearance.

Cons:

  • Accessibility – One disadvantage of rear-load containers is the way they are more difficult to access for those with limited mobility. If your client has expressed concerns about accessibility, a rear-load container may not be the right fit.
  • Cost – Another potential disadvantage of rear-load containers is their up-front cost, which does tend to be somewhat higher than that of a side- or front-load container. If cost is a primary concern, these containers may not be the best choice.
